The Gaza Strip has been deprived of development since the imposition of a comprehensive blockade in 2007. As a result, development and reconstruction needs in the Strip are enormous. Unemployment rates in Gaza remain amongst the highest in the world, all while some 80% of the population receive humanitarian assistance. In Jerusalem, Palestinians face restrictive construction policies and therefore experience a growing housing and property crisis. Basic services and access to land are unequally distributed by the Jerusalem municipality and are insufficient to cater to Palestinians’ development needs, including housing, education and health.

Gaza Emergency Response

We continues to assist the people of Gaza who find themselves trapped in a cycle of violence and hardship. We provide medical equipment, medicine and psychosocial support for children traumatized by the violence. We also provide critical aid such as food aid, winter packs, and hygiene packs.

Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are highly prevalent amongst Palestinians and are a large and rising burden estimated to account for a large proportion of all deaths in the population. Working alongside the Palestinian Red Crescent, the World Health Organization and the Palestinian Ministry of Health, we are stocking existing medical centers in the West Bank and Gaza with medical supplies, equipment and medicine to treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and cancer. Thus far our medical shipments have collectively served over 221,000 beneficiaries.

Gaza Winterization Campaign

In the wake of the ongoing blockade of Gaza, more than 700,000 people in Gaza faced the bitter winter of 2014/15 with continuous power shortages. UMR ran its annual winter drive and provided 3500 families with heaters, fuel, blankets, rugs, socks, hats, and jackets plus a 1 months’ supply of food to help them survive the winter.

Food Aid

UMR provides essential food aid to thousands of Palestinians facing food insecurity.

We support needy families with food packs both in Ramadan and throughout the year.
