Food is a fundamental need for the survival of human life. The World Food Summit of 1996 defined food security as existing “when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life” . Food security is built on three pillars: food availability, food access, and food use. Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five – 3.1 million children each year. Food security is a complex issue- interconnected to health, sustainable economic development, environment, and trade.
